A long time ago I started to document every trip John Brown made across the state by listing the location and dates or, at minimum, the month he had shown up at a particular Iowa address or location. I read through all the information I could get my hands on in the 1970's and had a pretty good list together, although it was far from complete. The State Historical Society of Iowa has this research if anyone is interested. They also have a copy of research done by an Ohio man in the 1880's of all the sites of under ground railroad activity he could find by searching out those still alive who were involved or their children and relatives. This too was a gift from a friend and a loan to the the State Historical Library to make a copy. Hope this helps others who might be especially interested in local UGRR history as well as the big time writers of this history! Steve
SHSI staff members are scrambling now to gather and research all Iowa UGRR facts, theories, rumors, and legends. I understand their aim is to tell the John Brown stories as well as possible by early 2009, the 150th anniversary of Brown's last trip. I hope they're finding all the information you and others have provided over the years!
This is great info to know.
